Name: Stan

Gender: Male

Interests: You can find me playing my guitar in any given room in my house and the occasional open mic night. I'll hit up a golf course whenever I get a chance. I have a cat, his name is Psst. I have a boat that I haven't used at all this year. Next year. Yeah, keep telling yourself that :D He's without a doubt the coolest cat of all time. Mostly though, this thing is for the inner workings of what goes on with my music. I like to write stuff down and then look back at it months later. You can learn alot about yourself that way. Sometimes you find it enlightening and other times you realize that you were a complete tool.
Expertise: I'm not sure whats up with the shirt I was wearing in the picture above. My sister bought it for me for christmas. I suppose I had to wear it at least once. How lucky of me to be wearing it the day someone was going to take my picture.

Today I played a gig with my largest audience to date. I played for a classroom of 20 2nd graders. It was their 100th day of school celebration and to help them celebrate I wrote a song about 100 things I liked and went to their classroom to sing it.

I was actually more nervous about singing in front of kids than I was adults. Kids are brutally honest. To my suprise, they loved the song, payed very close attention to it and demanded I sing it not once, but 3 times. By the 3rd time they had parts memorized and were singing along with me. I had them raise their hand everytime I sang about something they liked. It was like a non stop wave of hands for 3 minutes.

Later that night my friend who teaches the class brought me a bunch of thank you cards the kids made me out of construction paper. It was without a doubt the single coolest thing I have ever recieved. If I had enough magnets I would hang them all on my fridge.

There was one line of the song that went "I like fast cars and I like pretty girls". To which all the boys in the class yelled, "EEEEEWWWWWW!" and someone called me a wuss.

One of the cards read "Dear JR. Thank you for singing to us. P.S. Don't sing "I love girls" anymore. From: Nathan".

Yeah, I think I'm gonna redirect my focus to writing songs for little kids. They are much more fun than ex girlfriends, heart break and all that other drivel that fills up songs.

After the "show" my friend told me that the school does not have a music program so the kids were amazed to see me sing and play. I feel bad for them not having music so I'm going to go back for the Valentine's Day party and I'm going to let them help me write a song in the spirit of love. Seeing as how they are all 2nd graders and most of them despise love I imagine it won't be your traditional love song but I'm anticipating a line that goes something like, "I don't like love. I'd rather eat a bug then let a girl give me a hug."

Yeah, that song is gonna rule. We are also gonna make shoebox guitars. I went into the wrong profession. I want to be a teacher now. Kids are awesome. I asked the Principal if they were needing someone to teach Recess because I am sooooo good at recess. Sadly, I must keep my current job for now, as there is no Recess Teacher position at this time. Doh.

The new song is coming along nicely. I'm not trying to rush it as I really want it to say what I'm trying to say.

The guitar is sounding great, as soon as I finish the lyrics I'll post it.

I'm afraid I'm going to find myself in a old and familiar situation again.

I'm working on a new song to reflect the situation that may or may not come.

It's called "The Comfort Left Behind".

That's all the detail I'm going into now. The song will explain itself, there's no need for me to go into it on the chance that the situation may not happen. I hope it doesn't. But I've yet to be wrong on these feelings.

The song will say alot though.

So there is an Open Mic coming up this Tuesday. I think that's January 10th. I dunno. I don't feel like looking at the calendar. I'm not sure how many songs I'm going to play. Someone told me I should mix some cover songs into my set. That way people can hear something that already know and then I can switch it up to my own stuff. So I'm thinking of doing that.

So I'm thinking I'm going to throw some Jack Johnson in there. A Duncan Sheik classic "Barely Breathing" and maybe, MAYBE, some Ryan Cabrera. I'm not sure how I feel about playing the last one though.

So anyway, if you're going to be out Tuesday night around 7, then stop by Dioko's and have a listen. If you like what you hear I will autograph your breasts. Yep, I said it.

Later.

So I was out doing my usual Tuesday night thing, hanging out at the bar with a bunch of my friends. I got home about 2am and the phone rings. I get off the phone about 3 am and now I'm not tired. You know the feeling, you couldn't go to sleep if you're life depended on it. So I picked up the guitar and started dinking around. I remembered my friend Telly had written and recorded a song and I really liked it so I decided to try and lay some lead guitar down over it. After about an hour I finally had something I was pretty happy with and I finally got my software to cooperate so I could record it.

You might be able to hear that it's 4am in the recording because my timing is a bit off in parts. I'll try and rerecord it when I get some free time. But that will probably be next week sometime. I'm pretty much scheduled to work, party and sleep for at least the next 6 days. Then I have open mic on tuesday. So anyways, hope you like the remix. If you wanna listen to the original without my lead guitar on it I'll give you the link.
