I played for a
classroom of 20 2nd graders. It was their 100th day of school
celebration and to help them celebrate I wrote a song about 100 things
I liked and went to their classroom to sing it.

I was actually more nervous about singing in front of kids than I was
adults. Kids are brutally honest. To my suprise, they loved the song,
payed very close attention to it and demanded I sing it not once, but 3
times. By the 3rd time they had parts memorized and were singing along
with me. I had them raise their hand everytime I sang about something
they liked. It was like a non stop wave of hands for 3 minutes.

Later that night my friend who teaches the class brought me a bunch of
thank you cards the kids made me out of construction paper. It was
without a doubt the single coolest thing I have ever recieved. If I had
enough magnets I would hang them all on my fridge.

There was one line of the song that went "I like fast cars and I like
pretty girls". To which all the boys in the class yelled,
"EEEEEWWWWWW!" and someone called me a wuss.

One of the cards read "Dear JR. Thank you for singing to us. P.S. Don't sing "I love girls" anymore. From: Nathan".

Yeah, I think I'm gonna redirect my focus to writing songs for little
kids. They are much more fun than ex girlfriends, heart break and all
that other drivel that fills up songs.

After the "show" my friend told me that the school does not have a
music program so the kids were amazed to see me sing and play. I feel
bad for them not having music so I'm going to go back for the
Valentine's Day party and I'm going to let them help me write a song in
the spirit of love. Seeing as how they are all 2nd graders and most of
them despise love I imagine it won't be your traditional love song but
I'm anticipating a line that goes something like, "I don't like love.
I'd rather eat a bug then let a girl give me a hug."

Yeah, that song is gonna rule. We are also gonna make shoebox guitars.
I went into the wrong profession. I want to be a teacher now. Kids are
awesome. I asked the Principal if they were needing someone to teach
Recess because I am sooooo good at recess. Sadly, I must keep my
current job for now, as there is no Recess Teacher position at this
time. Doh.
I'm not trying to rush it as I really want it to say what I'm trying to say.

The guitar is sounding great, as soon as I finish the lyrics I'll post it.

I'm working on a new song to reflect the situation that may or may not come.

It's called "The Comfort Left Behind".

That's all the detail I'm going into now. The song will explain itself,
there's no need for me to go into it on the chance that the situation
may not happen. I hope it doesn't. But I've yet to be wrong on these
feelings.

The song will say alot though.

Sunday, January 08, 2006

So there is an Open Mic coming up this Tuesday. I think that's January
10th. I dunno. I don't feel like looking at the calendar. I'm not sure
how many songs I'm going to play. Someone told me I should mix some
cover songs into my set. That way people can hear something that
already know and then I can switch it up to my own stuff. So I'm
thinking of doing that.

So I'm thinking I'm going to throw some Jack Johnson in there. A Duncan
Sheik classic "Barely Breathing" and maybe, MAYBE, some Ryan Cabrera.
I'm not sure how I feel about playing the last one though.

So anyway, if you're going to be out Tuesday night around 7, then stop
by Dioko's and have a listen. If you like what you hear I will
autograph your breasts. Yep, I said it.

Later.
with a bunch of my friends. I got home about 2am and the phone rings. I
get off the phone about 3 am and now I'm not tired. You know the
feeling, you couldn't go to sleep if you're life depended on it. So I
picked up the guitar and started dinking around. I remembered my friend
Telly had written and recorded a song and I really liked it so I
decided to try and lay some lead guitar down over it. After about an
hour I finally had something I was pretty happy with and I finally got
my software to cooperate so I could record it.

You might be able to hear that it's 4am in the recording because my
timing is a bit off in parts. I'll try and rerecord it when I get some
free time. But that will probably be next week sometime. I'm pretty
much scheduled to work, party and sleep for at least the next 6 days.
Then I have open mic on tuesday. So anyways, hope you like the remix.
If you wanna listen to the original without my lead guitar on it I'll
give you the link.
Jarrett Clayman's
"Sorry". It has absolutely no relevance to my life, I just like playing
it. I stumbled across it by accident a few days ago while working on a
song of my own. Needless to say I now can't remember the song I was
working on because I started playing this one once I figured it out.

So here you go for your listening pleasure. Well, not really pleasure.
I'm just coming out of a cold and my voice decided to stick a couple
times during the song. You'll hear it, if you don't you're tone deaf.
Also, I was too lazy to go back and rerecord it. This was a one
recording deal.

Click here to play the song

"Sorry"
(Jarrett Clayman)

In just one moment all that you know can fly away,
But keep your arms open and they might come back some day.
That’s what I always say.

Some may ask if I regret losing you.
Every day I think about what I could do,
To show you.

Although you don’t know,
It hurts every time that you don’t show,
Any sign.
Any sign.

I’m doing what you wanted, leaving you alone.
I hope it’s okay but I kept your number on my phone.
But don’t worry, I can’t get past the dial tone.

Although you don’t know,
It hurts every time that you don’t show,
Any sign.
Any sign.

Friendships found and friendships lost, same old story.
Man gets proud, makes mistakes, and loses all his glory.

I really am sorry.
I am sorry.
I’m sorry.
Sorry.

out. I stupidly put them in the washer before I went to work without
realizing I would not be able to dry them until I got home. So I'm on
beer #3 while they dry so I can go enjoy the last parties of 2005.

I'm working on a show here in the next couple months. Not an open mic,
but an actual performance. One of them things where my name is on the
billboard and I get an hour or so to just jam with my guitar. It's
probably going to be in Febuary. I don't think I'm going to play any of
my songs though. I'll play a few that I still like, but not many.

I'll give you more details later but it's freaking New Years Eve, I'm going out.

Here's to 2005 and the fact that it will never happen again.
I tried this
DADDAA tuning and while I cant play any chords that way I am coming up
with this wacky old country/slide/blues thing. Imagine the movie O
Brother Where Art Though with some blues in it.

I honestly don't know what the hell I'm doing in this tuning or if what
I'm playing even sounds good but I can tell you this, from what I hear
when I'm playing it puts me in a mood better than any other I've ever
had while playing the guitar.

I can't imagine life getting much better than it is right now, this new guitar experience is just the icing on the cake.

The new song is done! It sounds awesome. It's my favorite song that
I've ever done. That's not saying much but this song really hits
something deep inside me. Hopefully you find something in it as well.
Here's the link to the new song.
